so TOPA, GCE do that in my mind. The trust as enabling legislation is essentially a side step in my mind, but one could consider it a big step forward if successfully reduces the number of ppl who are facing RAD/PACT. We don’t know if it will do that yet!

agree on TOPA, GCE but to me, if something is a sidestep, why are we using up limited organizing energy on this, esp w/ unknowns? i understand the material need to meet repairs. i’ve lived in PH w/ private mgmt & waited for 20 years until i saw repairs before i left

and the repairs were cheap and shoddy anyway. so for me my questions comes down to, what are we conceding? what are we giving up? what’s the long term end game?

I don’t think we (again not sure if we is DSA or the left writ large or HJ4A here) are organizing for the trust! I think it’s a distraction for DSA, I wish the org was focused on winning GCE and not wrapped into this distraction and in my mind wholly unnecessary controversy

It really just seems like all this is is a lot of posting and not a lot of anything else. (Lol and I am part of the problem!)

Seems important to mention that Julia Salazar is currently lead sponsor of the Trust bill. That’s a major reason why people think “DSA leadership” supports the Trust.

Yes, well, it seems to me there is a 1) vocal minority of DSA members opposed to the trust and 2) a vocal minority in support of the trust and 3) the vast majority of the org has no position or is confused. 1/3

Overall, that most of these folks have never ever spent significant time in public housing. While still nonetheless, as socialists, a debate abt public housing is fruitful but fundamentally still feels pretty disconnected and divorced from on-the-ground work. 2/3

But it seems to me that the actual issue here is abt SIO and abt the ethical tensions that emerge when DSA-elected officials have a lot of non-DSA constituents in a certain position on a question (here: vulnerable to RAD, in support of PT) and an org that is ambivalent on it 3/3
