Policy questions: Is DSA and Upstate/Downstate willing to trade 421-a repeal for Good Cause Eviction? What do you say to those who believe repealing Urstadt is the defining issue and not GCE? Or that the 5% annual rent increases allowed under GCA are not ok?https://twitter.com/ceaweaver/status/1513285882274586634 …

1 - no. we can't make "trades." we don't have a seat at the negotiating table. that's not organizers work 2 - we work w/ tenants ALL OVER new york state. repealing urstadt would do absolutely nothing for the folks we organize in rochester, syracuse, etc.. 1/2

Tx for reply. I think it says up to 5% / yr annual increase in rent in the last GCE draft I read. You are right that Urstadt repeal would not help people living upstate, but why should it be a policy choice to prioritize GCE over repeal of Urstadt?

1) that’s not what it says, read it 2) personally I think urstadt repeal is a neoliberal dead-end that leaves millions out but if you wanna build a statewide coalition around it, go on ahead. HJ4A members set our strategy - not random ppl who bully me on Twitter.

We went through months and months of debate as a coalition to land on moving past urstadt repeal.
