      it is rather funny to me that many people on here seem to have gotten into 'urbanism' and 'development' during the pandemic and fancy themselves experts (is it trendy now?), while i have been writing about development in new york city since it was deeply uncool 8 years ago

      This is a good thing! More people (especially young people) getting excited, learning about, talking about, and even getting civically engaged around this stuff will help make the city better. When people aren't interested developers & politicians decide things for us by default.

      anyway, i'm glad @MarketUrbanism helped teach me about zoning, and glad @EmilyNonko taught me how to look up building permits and such, and that people are so much more invested in these issues now than they were then
