Hey! It’s not a hot take and I’m not even saying it abt NYCHA! Let’s set just NYCHA aside entirely: a big pool of federal money in the form of project based section 8 could help us convert vacant and distressed hotels to housing for the homeless.

It’s not about selling NYCHA at all - it’s abt more subsidy for the operation of housing that serves low income people - something that often imo gets missed in rezoning debates. That’s all!

In our current property regime, vouchers = a subsidy to private development (which is why NYCHA residents oppose, and that’s fair!) My point is that doesn’t have to be true - they could, in the long run, in a different property regime, subsidize social or public housing
