This is a major point tho. De Blasio would agree that creating these units that are categorized as affordable is worth destroying affordability in the surrounding area. I would disagree.

yes, that’s true. it’s that housing period, even if it’s high end & unaffordable is a net positive. i can see how i was dismissive of this. i understand where you are coming from, as i disagree with that argument as well

I disagree. I certainly do not see building luxury housing as a net positive.https://twitter.com/zekeluger/status/1431836777002807296?s=21 …
Vanessa Thill added,
Zeke Luger @zekelugerA lot of the displacement in Williamsburg happened just outside of the rezoning boundary. Cea Weaver Retweeted people over profit, people over property 🇭🇹 🦻🏾
This is exactly what I mean Sabrina! short term benefits are real BUT may sell out long term fights, and have tons of examples of this. There are lots of examples of reforms that do good things that also prop up industry (ie food stamps) and that’s real a convo to have.https://twitter.com/sabrinafbazile/status/1433902872400367622 …
Cea Weaver added,
people over profit, people over property 🇭🇹 🦻🏾 @sabrinafbazileReplying to @vsthilli don’t think cea is coming out in support of the rezoning ! i think cea’s saying that it’s flawed but may bring short term benefit & convos don’t get at the expansion of status quo / expansion of the developer class1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
I also don’t think I was really taking a strong stance! Housing vouchers for example: direct subsidy to landlords and also address homelessness

This is all I was trying to raise w a rezoning as an example….

There are reforms that prop up capitalism and reforms that undermine it, but both things can address pain and lack of housing in the short term. It is our job to analyze that as leftists imo. And I tried to do that in this thread.

RAD as an example: it short term creates repairs. It long term undermines the agency. It also increases evictions. Hence we oppose. But we don’t ignore that it short term creates repairs. We face that head on. I’m not pro rad!

Sorry to offend. Truly! I just don’t think I am doing what I am being accused of by some, however.
