Hi #DSACon21 twitter: I'm on the organizing committee of @nycdsa_housing, and @dsa_housing, and I am planning on voting no tomorrow on Resolution 20 (if we get there.) Here are my thoughts! 1/7https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PFd9O8Ggte0ztz3IpfiQvHszoZ2n7dD9siQa0t_9ydU/edit …

We already made tenant union organizing a priority, with a structure that is more realistic and based in our current capacity, on Thursday in the consent agenda.

The resolution requires DSA chapters to affiliate tenant unions w/ the Autonomous Tenant Union Network. ATUN is amazing, but we should allow chapters to decide for themselves if it makes sense to affiliate. and we should use tenant union organizing to build our own org. 3/7

Moreover, tenant union organizing is a path to build DSA into a big, multi-racial working class organization. We cannot do this if we are directing comrades to other orgs. 4/7

This resolution puts too much emphasis on legal support - this is undesirable, not practical, and not necessary. 5/7

It also divides our work to build tenant unions & our campaigns for stronger tenants' rights policy. This is not advisable and it is confusing: all policy campaigns must be grounded in tenant union work! 6/7

I really really respect and love the spirit of the amendment and am eager to work with the authors to grow and build tenant union work in DSA! I encourage them to run for @dsa_housing and can't wait to work with them, if this passes or if it doesn't! 7/7
