Changing the rent laws incrementally helps but it doesn’t lower rents, just slows the rate at which they rise. not putting down housing activism or the important work you did, but you know what I’m saying.
yeah but that's not aaron's point necessarily - just rent regulation that is. i mean i agree with your broader point but the market is not god and is quite regulated and the point is we could organize towards a political system that would regulate it even more

sure. I feel like he was getting at the idea that we are largely victims of decades of bad policy. frankly I think actually reversing the trends that have accelerated gentrification will involve huge systemic changes - including zoning ones - that extend far beyond rent reg.
