NY Housing Twitter pls weigh in and tell me what “Mitchell Lama 2.0” means to you!!!

It’s something tenant / housing advocates say a lot as a solution and I wanna know why!

Ah. The term “Mitchell-Lama” is popular because it’s thought of as coops which provide well below-market housing in gentrified neighborhoods. When people say they want “Mitchell-Lama 2.0” it means they want more coops priced like its 1972 on the UWS that they might be able to get

so basically agree with what Moses w slightly less cynicism, except the ("1.0") ML program actually didn't cover a bunch of the neighborhoods where people right now might want them. and I think 2.0 would close the loop on privatization, or one would hope.

additionally, I think a lot of people pushing for this see it as part of a "filtering down" process in a way that middle-income rental apartments will never be. At least that's how I've seen it, and I think that idea probably holds more promise now due to HSTPA.

What abt the large #s of ML rentals? They have relatively high income limits. I wanna know more abt the financing/why it’s preferable to HPD’s current method (if it is).
