Berlin has a bunch of really inspiring housing things happening right now (the push for re-municipalization of privatized social housing is the other one). But, they also have 40K people turn out to anti-rent gouging protests. cc:

That they do. Didn't mean to imply that electing radicals solely made this happen. Their tactics are, I think, more militant than ours. I'm talking smashing google campus windows, squatting and takeovers, etc. The speculative landscape a radical departure from just a few yrs ago.

Berlin is a hotbed for social causes mostly because of its historically proletarian population that created alternative collective power, pushing renter rights and housing as a social good. It’s fascinating but instructive. I have an article I wrote coming out soon about this.
