The tenants of buildings scooped up by a private equity-backed landlord that subsequently jacked up rents are organizing, and are hoping to get a major bill passed in Albany to prevent similarly unscrupulous property owners from doing the same to others.

Tenants in Bed-Stuy are being evicted by corporate private equity companies driven by greed. So why does STILL not sponsor good cause?

My thoughts on the bk half marathon today are that the race course was gorgeous and super fun to run and way better than the New York road runner version! But that there were not enough vols and staff to execute

Just a tip people who are running for so long they feel like they are gonna throw up don’t necessarily crave the thought of a heavy breakfast or a tequila shot

“Run faster….you’re late to brunch!” Or “run faster…there’s shots at the end” and all jokey signs like that are actually really annoying 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Meeting Deloris and getting to fight with her in her building in Crown Heights is one of my organizing high points of the last 10 years. I've learned so much from her, check out her story here ⤵️

Housing is a human right. It shouldn’t be an investment vehicle to make the wealthy even wealthier. My landlord tried to raise my rent by 50%. In response, I organized a tenants union in my building. Thank you , , & for your support today.

Most rent regulated apartments are in large buildings. Most of the property is owned by large landlords. For 5 years I sat on the rent guidelines board and never met a landlord behind on their mortgage because of low rents but met thousands of tenants fearful of being evicted!

small property owners can sell their extra properties. tenants cannot produce rent money out of thin air. there is literally no trade off here - the mayor is inventing a legally protected return on investment and tenants will suffer because of it

what’s wild is how eagerly and unquestioningly a lot of “small landlords” will do public work to protect the profits & power of people far, far, far wealthier than themselves — at the expense of tenants, who they have way more in common with economically than they do w/ BlackRock

needs to be more discussion of how “small landlord” rhetoric functions to protect the profit/interests of an industry that for the most part isn’t actually run by “small landlords” & doesn’t care about them. big real estate knows this works — it’s in all their talking point lists
