Happy to see the NYC Socialists in Office rolling out endorsements this morning, but I'm confused as to why they're not endorsing @nycDSA candidates as a bloc this time around?

I mean, as typical, the speaker and leadership can throw down the hammer and destroy any moving legislation belonging to a member if they endorse against to shore up vulnerable colleagues. Torpedoing a whole body of work is a big risk, and it's unfortunate leadership can do this

Brandon is right here and I’ll add some more: the budget process is in the works! If you know anything about state politics it’s that 80% of the state legislature work is in the budget. Budget-related priorities (many of which the platform is tied to) will be in jeopardy…

Allowing the democratic establishment to divide us over crumbs in an austerity budget runs counter to the project of building a socialist bloc in the Albany legislature.

Is it dividing us though? A public endorsement is pretty symbolic. It's obvious the slate supports each other, and all our resources are going to the races. It's basically an ig post vs. all of our priorities. I don't feel it's worth it considering we are going hard in the paint.

They got them to abandon their plan (which they had!) to endorse as a bloc at the last minute. They divided them pretty well, and now they know they can do it again in the future. Over a bill that wont pass and a budget they wont have any say over anyway. Bad trap to walk into.
