    For social housing to be a meaningful term in the U.S., it has to entail public or collective ownership.* I’m okay with a big tent that includes public housing (though no/less means testing please). But if a typical mixed-finance LIHTC development counts, we’ve lost the plot.

    Soon, the day will come when our cities are able to build new, publicly owned social housing for the masses, and the opposition will be voracious. All social housing will cast shadows. Some social housing will be built on parking lots. And some social housing will be quite dense.

    Didn't expect this one: "Overall, landlords' cash balances grew during the pandemic." Largely due to a cut in mortgage payments + aid to renters. Though, landlords didn't hold up as well in core city centers.
